Giovanni Pelloso Riaffioramenti – Asia on my mind è il diario visivo del lungo viaggio interiore intrapreso per fissare e definire nei dettagli il ricordo della visita, compiuta nel 2010, al meraviglioso giardino cinese Qinghui a DaLiang: un luogo capace di ricreare perfettamente un paesaggio in miniatura idealizzato ed esprimere l’armonia che dovrebbe esistere tra l’uomo e la natura. Riaffioramenti – Asia on my mind ritrae le carpe che popolano gli stagni di quello straordinario giardino: più volte mi sono seduto al tavolo da lavoro nel tentativo di riportare alla mente i colori dei pesci, che ritornavano vividi e al contempo inafferrabili. Ne è nata una serie in bianco e nero colorata a mano, utilizzando gli inchiostri di china. La stessa immagine è il soggetto di molteplici sessioni di lavoro in giorni differenti. My Private Star

My Private Star / 2021 My Private Star is a new, creative and contemporary zodiac in which the signs are truly linked to our lives. Twelve objects typical of photography are used to represent the signs of the zodiac and describe their characteristics. They are also carefully selected in order to visually illustrate the history of photography. This way, My Private Star represent not only an inner journey for each and everyone of us, but also a journey through the history of a form of art that characterises our society and is strongly persistent in our lives. The relationship between man and the cosmos is no longer described with mythical figures and mythological tales, but with objects belonging to our lives, which all of us have touched and used. In My Private Star, cameras and photographic equipment become a metaphor for investigating our inner selves. The place of destiny

The place of destiny / 2020 Is the cosmos mainly cause or chance? Is our life formed only by our choices or are there also invisible forces? “The Place of Destiny” is a photographic project about all of us. A real place, Milan, becomes the setting where the invisible forces that move and attract each of us materialise themselves. All photographs are hand-made cyanotypes plus ink-jet prints on Magnani cotton fine-art paper (dimensions: 35x25cm, 70x50cm). Il luogo del destino / 2020 Il cosmo è soprattutto causa o casualità? Bright nights

Bright nights / 2021 Some events, although invisible, make their presence felt with atmospheres that are as charged and colourful as they are cryptic, and which fill the whole landscape. The beaches of eastern Veneto are the setting for these images. Bright nights / 2021 Alcuni eventi, seppure invisibili, fanno sentire loro presenza con atmosfere tanto cariche e colorate quanto criptiche, riempiendo tutto il paesaggio. The Colour of Memories

The Colour of Memories / 2020 “The Colour of Memories” is a photographic reflection on the landscape and our memories of it, and it is made up by a set of heterogeneous photographs of animals, details, stuffed birds, insects, landscapes. All the images share a communal image structure and a marked colouristic choice, that give them a strong group coherence. They have a vertical cut, in contrast to horizontal and panoramic point of view usually adopted by landscape photography. The bold colours and their juxtaposition bind the images together, make them more abstract and universal, and place them between observation and memory, between reality and imagination/dream. Although all the images have been taken in Veneto since 2015, they describe the elements and colours common to the Venetian and Sicilian landscapes. The Quarantine Experience

The Quarantine Experience / 2020 We are always surrounded by forces and events that are completely beyond our will and control, which constitute an invisible, hidden and largely incomprehensible network. Similarly, our unconscious is also covered by an unseen and often unfathomable network of drives, emotions, remote memories, and unconfessed desires. Drawing on visual imagery closely linked to the scientific sphere, “The Quarantine Experience” gives visual form to these two networks, which permeate our entire existence and between which we live suspended often without realising it. In these images, physical forces and entities interact, mirroring subtle feelings and realities. Natural Forces, Sicily

Sicily has been an opportunity for an inner journey. Sea, cloudy skies, water, stone and rocks, lava, sparse vegetation, suspended vapors. Everywhere silence and a feeling of momentary and meditative suspension. Primordial forces are stirring and animating a cryptic and murky landscape, which has become a mirror of my soul. General views and details alternate themselves in an attempt to grasp connections and cause and effect relationships. A sense of continuous loss of balance makes me doubt what is on the surface, and pushes me to continue my journey. La Sicilia si rivela occasione per un viaggio interiore. Mare, cieli nuvolosi, acqua, pietra e rocce, lava, vegetazione sparuta, vapori sospesi. Ovunque silenzio e una sensazione di momentanea e meditabonda sospensione. Forze primordiali si agitano e animano un paesaggio criptico ed oscuro, divenuto specchio del mio animo. Viste generali e dettagli si alternano nel tentativo di cogliere connessioni e rapporti di causa ed effetto. Un senso di continua perdita dell’equilibrio mi fa dubitare di ciò che si mostra in superficie, e mi spinge a proseguire il mio viaggio.

On foot in a metro area: Milan

On foot in a metro area: Milan / 2010 – ongoing ” On foot in a metro area: Milan” is part of a broader photographic project, “On foot in a metro area”, and collects five crossings I have made through Milan and its metropolitan area. I’ve always made them on foot, slowly, marking the rhythm of my photographs at a steady pace, building a photographic map of the visited places. I have performed these explorations together with Sebastiano Brandolini. The area of investigation is a large suburban area, very huge, of about six million people, which I think can be grasped only by the slow look of a walker. I tried to recount the essence of such places. Is there still a centre in Milan or are there more centres? Where are the places chosen by Milan and by its many neighborhoods? In which direction is evolving the Milan’s metropolitan area? Where is the metropolitan imagination carrying us for the next decades? Why is ‘walking’ a political act nowadays?
