Lecce,tradition and innovation

“If I had to compare Lecce to another Italian city, I would not look in the south, but rather in the Val Padana, Veneto, Emilia, in those cities that were already the seat of a duchy and a principality, and in which the spirit of an aristocratic culture ends up being exalted.”   Guido Piovene   Thanks to ‘Il Tour dell’Abitare’ – an educational tour proposed and created by Confartigianato Imprese Lecce and carried out in collaboration with the Regional Tourism Agency PugliaPromozione – I had the opportunity to visit and photograph Lecce and its Province. I discovered a very beautiful and special territory, modelled by man over the centuries to suit his own needs and his own imagination. Tradition and innovation come together in the Lecce area. Contemporary productions are rooted firmly in tradition from which they have absorbed traditional decorative motifs and the best features of craftsmanship. One has the impression that centuries of craftsmanship and improvements have been spontaneously incorporated into current production, creating contemporary objects with an ancient soul. The buildings are often the result of centuries of history and different constructions, which have followed one another and mixed together in a continuous process of functional readaptation […]

Landscape, the big love

CLICK HERE for the pdf guide to the exhibition at Caldera Park, Milan CLICK HERE CLICK HERE for the pdf guide to the exhibition at Caldera Park, Milan CLICK HERE   Landscape, the big love / 2021 In ‘Landscape, the big love’, views of Asian cities are juxtaposed with seascapes photographed at night or at sunset. The elevated viewpoint and the wide view give the visitor the apparent feeling of seeing everything, of being a privileged observer. to see everything, to be a privileged observer. In the skyscraper-dense Asian districts, nature seems to explode and overflow, while in the views of the sea and cliffs, it makes its primordial force felt. The theme linking all the images is nature with its invincible force. The project identifies the landscape as an opportunity to pause and meditate. The images, characterised by a progressive emptying out and an increasingly metaphysical connotation, are proposed as possible mirrors of our soul.

Riaffioramenti – Asia on my mind

Ciascuna opera del progetto “Riaffioramenti – Asia on my mind” è un’opera originale firmata, tecnica mista su carta 100% cotone in diversi formati: […]

My Private Star

My Private Star / 2021 My Private Star is a new, creative and contemporary zodiac in which the signs are truly linked to our lives. Twelve objects typical of photography are used to represent the signs of the zodiac and describe their characteristics. They are also carefully selected in order to visually illustrate the history of photography. This way, My Private Star represent not only an inner journey for each and everyone of us, but also a journey through the history of a form of art that characterises our society and is strongly persistent in our lives. The relationship between man and the cosmos is no longer described with mythical figures and mythological tales, but with objects belonging to our lives, which all of us have touched and used. In My Private Star, cameras and photographic equipment become a metaphor for investigating our inner selves.

Bright nights

Bright nights / 2021 Some events, although invisible, make their presence felt with atmospheres that are as charged and colourful as they are cryptic, and which fill the whole landscape. The beaches of eastern Veneto are the setting for these images.

Lockdown

I photographed the centre of Milan during the urban life lockdown caused by the Covid 19 pandemic. For a long time Milan remained frozen and silent, and not many people moved except for a few passers-by in search of food and some essentials; however, the shadows of the buildings and the shoots of the plants moved uninterruptedly. During those two long months – March and April 2020 – Milan was full (you can see the parked cars) and anything but empty – as still happens in August. But the pedestrian areas, which are often also commercial ones, were empty and turned off for real. Smiling, we can say that, thanks to Covid 19, we realized again the physicality of Milan, and its being made of streets and buildings. This is one thing not to forget, and probably the message of my photographs.

The Colour of Memories

The Colour of Memories / 2020 “The Colour of Memories” is a photographic reflection on the landscape and our memories of it, and it is made up by a set of heterogeneous photographs of animals, details, stuffed birds, insects, landscapes. All the images share a communal image structure and a marked colouristic choice, that give them a strong group coherence. They have a vertical cut, in contrast to horizontal and panoramic point of view usually adopted by landscape photography. The bold colours and their juxtaposition bind the images together, make them more abstract and universal, and place them between observation and memory, between reality and imagination/dream. Although all the images have been taken in Veneto since 2015, they describe the elements and colours common to the Venetian and Sicilian landscapes.

The Quarantine Experience

The Quarantine Experience / 2020 We are always surrounded by forces and events that are completely beyond our will and control, which constitute an invisible, hidden and largely incomprehensible network. Similarly, our unconscious is also covered by an unseen and often unfathomable network of drives, emotions, remote memories, and unconfessed desires. Drawing on visual imagery closely linked to the scientific sphere, “The Quarantine Experience” gives visual form to these two networks, which permeate our entire existence and between which we live suspended often without realising it. In these images, physical forces and entities interact, mirroring subtle feelings and realities.

Natural Forces, Sicily

Sicily has been an opportunity for an inner journey. Sea, cloudy skies, water, stone and rocks, lava, sparse vegetation, suspended vapors. Everywhere silence and a feeling of momentary and meditative suspension. Primordial forces are stirring and animating a cryptic and murky landscape, which has become a mirror of my soul. General views and details alternate themselves in an attempt to grasp connections and cause and effect relationships. A sense of continuous loss of balance makes me doubt what is on the surface, and pushes me to continue my journey.
