“If I had to compare Lecce to another Italian city, I would not look in the south, but rather in the Val Padana, Veneto, Emilia, in those cities that were already the seat of a duchy and a principality, and in which the spirit of an aristocratic culture ends up being exalted.”   Guido Piovene   Thanks to ‘Il Tour dell’Abitare’ – an educational tour proposed and created by Confartigianato Imprese Lecce and carried out in collaboration with the Regional Tourism Agency PugliaPromozione – I had the opportunity to visit and photograph Lecce and its Province. I discovered a very beautiful and special territory, modelled by man over the centuries to suit his own needs and his own imagination. Tradition and innovation come together in the Lecce area. Contemporary productions are rooted firmly in tradition from which they have absorbed traditional decorative motifs and the best features of craftsmanship. One has the impression that centuries of craftsmanship and improvements have been spontaneously incorporated into current production, creating contemporary objects with an ancient soul. The place of destiny

The place of destiny / 2020 Is the cosmos mainly cause or chance? Is our life formed only by our choices or are there also invisible forces? “The Place of Destiny” is a photographic project about all of us. A real place, Milan, becomes the setting where the invisible forces that move and attract each of us materialise themselves. All photographs are hand-made cyanotypes plus ink-jet prints on Magnani cotton fine-art paper (dimensions: 35x25cm, 70x50cm).   Il luogo del destino / 2020 Il cosmo è soprattutto causa o casualità? Lockdown

I photographed the centre of Milan during the urban life lockdown caused by the Covid 19 pandemic. For a long time Milan remained frozen and silent, and not many people moved except for a few passers-by in search of food and some essentials; however, the shadows of the buildings and the shoots of the plants moved uninterruptedly. During those two long months – March and April 2020 – Milan was full (you can see the parked cars) and anything but empty – as still happens in August. But the pedestrian areas, which are often also commercial ones, were empty and turned off for real. Smiling, we can say that, thanks to Covid 19, we realized again the physicality of Milan, and its being made of streets and buildings. On foot in a metro area: Milan

On foot in a metro area: Milan / 2010 – ongoing ” On foot in a metro area: Milan” is part of a broader photographic project, “On foot in a metro area”, and collects five crossings I have made through Milan and its metropolitan area. I’ve always made them on foot, slowly, marking the rhythm of my photographs at a steady pace, building a photographic map of the visited places. I have performed these explorations together with Sebastiano Brandolini. The area of investigation is a large suburban area, very huge, of about six million people, which I think can be grasped only by the slow look of a walker. I tried to recount the essence of such places. Is there still a centre in Milan or are there more centres? Where are the places chosen by Milan and by its many neighborhoods? In which direction is evolving the Milan’s metropolitan area? Where is the metropolitan imagination carrying us for the next decades? Why is ‘walking’ a political act nowadays?
